Wading In

July 3, 2024

Joe Biden may be a decent man but he does not now have what it takes to be our president. And at what rate will his capabilities continue to decline? It’s laughable that he uses his travel schedule as an excuse for his debate performance. Our president doesn’t get to make excuses, especially when it’s a given that it’s a 24/7/365 job.

Shame on the Democrats for not having a deep bench — any bench. Ever heard of “next man up??”

My opinion is that Don Trump is not a decent man. He’s a liar and his only question is “how will this benefit me?” He’s not Christian and has no skill at building consensus. He’s never ever taken the blame. But he will be our next president. Odds are the country will survive his four years but the fact I need to express that as a probability disturbs me. There will be no one minding the national debt. While I can agree that government regulation can be onerous, we need some regulation to keep corporate greed in check.

Trump will do what his base wants. Unfortunately much of his base is his base because they despise the success that some of us have achieved. They want “the elites” to get their comeuppance, damn what it means for the country as a whole.

Bloomberg has been reporting that Wall Street thinks the economy will continue on the same path no matter who is president. I’m not sure I buy that. The Street is motivated to take that position so they don’t piss off either party.

Oh, Lucian, you are just a Democrat. Actually, I’d define myself as a Romney Republican. He is one of the few politicians who lets his personal values guide him (as opposed to his political values).

Trump will not decrease the price of gasoline even if we drill, drill, drill (we are refinery capacity constrained plus it’s a global market). His economic policies will be inflationary. (BTW, I believe we could actually use a good recession to help arrest inflated prices.). The country will become more divided (I’m not sure anyone can derail that train.). Our environment will suffer and we will become more of an isolationist.

My wish is that we return to a centrist form of government — that we conserve what moderates want and reject what extremists demand.

A C- discussion of my views. The reality is that what happens in DC doesn’t change much for me and even if it did, there’s nothing I can do about it. I do wish as a country we could Rodney King. Life is too short for all the vitriol in our society today.

Strange And Spoiled

Days like today remind me of my luck and being spoiled. Lots of people work on days that others of us take as holidays. They sacrifice time that the rest of us use to bask in the (hopeful) relaxatio
