October 9, 2024 Morning Report

Gaia Hotel ($112)

Anderson, California

October 9, 2024, 730 AM

Quick update as I’ve got a big drive to do today.

My visit to Lassen Volcanic National Park yesterday was overwhelming in terms of sights. That was preceded by a beautiful drive to LVNP from Susanville including lakes, fields, the town of Chester, another home of Paul Bunyon (Westwood), seeing a power plant I used to manage (that threw my mind off), driving through majestic trees and miles of fire damage.

I met a fellow named Tim at LVNP who retired from teaching three years ago and has been traveling ever since. He was camping at LVNP. He travels around the globe. Interesting fellow. Was pleased that almost everyplace he said “you’ve got to go there” I had been to.

LVNP is at around 8,000 feet so it was windy and cool. Sweatshirt weather. Thermometer in my car read in the 60s. As I came down to Anderson (elevation ~ 400 feet), I noticed it was 92 degrees. Out the window went any plans of spending the night in HiHo Silver. I’m a cheap bastard but I’ll rent an air conditioned hotel room under that condition.

Thanks to Ken I have a dentist appointment in Pasadena on Monday. Yesterday I had nothing but soft foods and liquids.

Today is a moving day as I put myself in position to visit Kings Canyon and Sequoia National Parks tomorrow and Friday.

Four of the 300+ photos and videos I took yesterday.
