Walmart
Susanville, California

I was joined in the Walmart lot last night by seven or eight other campers. Van to the left of me has North Carolina plates; van to the right Georgia (Fulton County) plates.
Tooth acting up. Not so bad that I couldn’t sleep but enough to make me wonder if I will ever chew food again.
I’m going to develop a backlog on posting about my wanders. Yesterday I visited Plush, Oregon — wouldn’t you? Great name but it wasn’t. Remote would have been a better one. Lots of great photos on the drive there. Then I was back on US 395. It is one of my all time favorite highways — but I’ve only driven it in Southern California. This part is beautiful, too. I visited Likely, California. Scored the classic “where the hell is Likely, CA” bumper sticker.
US 395 from where I got on it in Oregon to outside Susanville is a two-lane road. Seemed like the traffic was 50 percent 18 wheelers, 20 percent RVs, 25 percent pickups and 5 percent farm equipment. Vast stretches of nothing. “No services for 70 miles” sign — and that may have understated the access to fuel.
I’m about an hour from Lassen Volcanic National Park. Google Maps has not helped me figure out the best way to drive into and through it. Another adventure. Sounds like it is Yellowstone-lite without the crowds.
Several random photos from yesterday (reverse chronological order):
