I am writing this entry on October 27.
After visiting Lassen National Park on October 10th, I headed to Susanville, California where I spent the night with other vehicles in the Walmart parking lot. I was in some pretty good pain with a tooth abscess, treating it with antibiotics and Advil for the pain. My goal for October 11th was to drive to Tulare, California to put myself in position to visit Kings Canyon and Sequoia National Parks. I made it to Tulare but not to the national parks.
I was talking with Lucian late in the day (and drive) on October 11 when I began to feel achy and feverish. Maybe a slight sore throat -- all of which I interpreted as the onset of a cold. I checked into a Fairfield Inn in Tulare given that finding a place to boondock in that part of California was difficult. I'm glad I was in a hotel as I spent the next three nights there after I tested positive for Covid on the morning of October 12.
My mind took me into the corner and kicked my ass with the shame of being sick and having a toothache. Both were obviously my fault my mind told me.
Fortunately I was able to sleep most of the day and night on October 12 and 13. I ate soup as I could not chew with my sore tooth.
It was on either October 14th or 15th that I decided that I needed a change of scenery. I was beginning to feel better and drove toward the coast. Ended up at a hotel in Paso Robles. There I finally tested a negative (on October 16th and again on the 17th).
It was a long week of not feeling well. I have been lucky in my travels to only have been really sick only a couple of times -- both either on my way or at my sister's.
